How should website owners react to Google Fresh?

Have no fear Google Fresh is not another social network or anything like that. Google, Yahoo, and Bing all use certain formulas or algorithms when determining what results get listed when you do a search. Google routinely will make updates or changes to their algorithm.

In simple terms, this update will apparently make Google’s listings fresher. On the Official Google Blog where this new Update was announced, Amit Singhal states: “…these changes will better determine when to give you more up-to-date relevant results for these varying degrees of freshness.” According to Singhal, this update will only evidently impact 6-10% of searches.

Nonetheless, Google Fresh will affect what websites or pages get listed in the top spots in Google. You will already see these fresher listings being listed for searches that are about products or services that are constantly evolving like consumer electronics.

How should website owners react to Google Fresh?

Now that you know what Google Fresh is, you may be asking how your site is going to be affected. For the typical business site owner, it will most likely mean you will have to ascertain how often the content on your website is updated. Having updated content has always been important.

However, with this Google Fresh Update, it is going to be even more important to ensure that you regularly keep content on your website relevant and fresh. This applies not only to your website, but also to your overall marketing strategy.
For many small business owners with limited time and resources, adding new content is not always on the top priorities list even though it should be.

Blogging

Hiring someone for blogging is a great option. With my clients, I always try to have them involved. I think it should be a team because you are the expert in what you do and how you separate yourself from your competition. The best way to consistently have fresh content is by blogging or having a forum on your website.

Blogs are excellent sources of fresh content. As long as the blog posts are relevant, they are very search engine friendly. Think of the questions that you get asked by people on a regular basis, these are great blog topics because chances are that people are searching online for answers to those questions if you are getting asked them regularly.

Creating Active Online Communities

Another great idea is to create an active online community around your blog. Posting to your Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or LinkedIn about your blog post if they are pretty large and active will get your content noticed by Google.

Utilizing these social networks will quickly pass fresh information or news to anyone concerned, and is a great way to get your message out quickly and easily.

There are definitely additional ways to ensure you have fresh content such as forums on your website, doing press releases, and submitting articles to Google News Sites. By investing either in hiring someone to do this stuff for you or investing your time, it is definitely well worth the effort. Ultimately, give Google what Google wants, and you will see the rewards.
